Interstellar

A beautiful tale of space-time, love, and survival, Interstellar is one of my favourite movies. It revolves around the quote ‘Mankind was born on Earth, it was never meant to die here’. Based on physicist Kip Thorne’s works, Christopher Nolan’s direction, McConaughey's acting, Hann Zimmer’s soundtrack, mind-blowing visual effects and great camera work made this movie a treat to watch.
The movie opens, where Earth is on the verge of destruction. Corn is the only crop survived but will die soon due to climate change and blight; like all the other extinct crops. Earth needs farmers other than any occupations to overcome hunger of a vast population. Schools get to choose the only handful of students to be admitted in universities as they ran out of resources and others are forced to become farmers, there are no armies, no major companies operational, all the space exploration agencies are shut down to save money for survival and the only thing constant is the massive dust storm hitting cities frequently causing accidents and many health issues. The main character of the movie is Cooper (Mathew McConaughey) an engineer, former test pilot for NASA and now a farmer like everyone else. Cooper is living with his daughter Murph, son Tom and Father-in-law. His daughter Murph always feels the presence of someone in her room which she believes to be a Ghost. She thinks the ghost is trying to communicate with her as random books keep falling from the shelf but others don’t believe her.
One day, heavy dust storm hits Cooper's farm and when it over, dust particle in Murph’s room get settled in the specific pattern due to gravitational anomaly. Cooper studies the pattern very curiously and believes that those are coordinates in binary form. These coordinates lead him to NASA’s secret mission control which was established after all space agencies were shut down, where he meets Prof. Brand and his daughter Dr Brand. NASA explains Cooper their mission to relocate humanity on some habitable planet. In past, NASA found disturbance in space-time near the Saturn which is a ‘Wormhole' (Not a naturally occurring phenomenon and which connects two different locations in space via shortcut) must be placed by ‘them’ which leads to another galaxy. NASA sent 12 scientists in that wormhole in search of a habitable planet under Lazarus Mission (who came back from the dead) lead by Dr Mann. Mission was to assess new planet and if it shows potential send back signal and hibernate until rescued otherwise there is always death to rescue. During this mission, NASA received signals from three potential worlds through a wormhole and hence Prof. Brand asks Cooper to Pilot the ‘Endurance Mission’ to those worlds as he is the best pilot NASA ever had and ‘they’ have chosen him to find out best kept secret facility of NASA. While Cooper is gone Prof. Brand will work on the equation of gravity to harness it and build-up centrifuge station in the space to travel the humanity to a habitable planet. Meanwhile, Murph decodes the message by her ‘Ghost’ and that says ‘STAY’ so she tries to stop Cooper but he agrees to the mission and before going he gives Murph a ‘Watch’. Endurance starts its long voyage towards the wormhole near Saturn with Pilot Cooper and scientists Dr Brand (Anne Hathway), Romley and Doyle along with robots CASE and TARS
First stop of there mission is Miller’s planet as it is showing positive signals constantly but is orbiting around the Gargantua, a massive black hole which means a difference in gravity which ultimately affect relative time compared to Earth drastically, in simple language every hour spent on Miller’s planet will be seven years back on Earth a.k.a Relativity. After landing they found the planet is covered with water and destroyed parts of Dr Miller’s lander. While collecting wreckage of the ship they observe a wave of thousands of feet which they considered as mountains are coming towards them, that huge wave hit them and during all the chaos, unfortunately, Doyle dies. (If observed carefully you will listen clicking noise in the background when the team is on Miller's planet and each click means a day passed on Earth). This failure costs them 23 years of Earth and lots of fuel so now they have to decide one of remaining planet Mann’s or Edmund’s. After lots of discussions, Dr Brand’s confession of love for Dr Edmund (she terms Love as an observable, perceivable, quantifiable thing that travels through time and space) which makes her go for Edmund’s planet, by voting they choose to go for Mann’s planet. When the team arrives on Mann’s planet they observe frozen clouds, land covered with ice and air containing ammonia with no signs of life. Dr Mann deliberately faked the signals just to get rescued and get back on Earth even though he knew that its a one-way mission. Mann tries to kill all the team and steals the probe; however Cooper and Dr Brand get away safely. Mann gets killed during docking the probe to the ship and Cooper takes control of the ship again with sheer excellence.
Back on Earth Coop’s daughter Murph is all grown up, working with Prof. Brand to solve the equation of gravity and hoping that her dad will come back. But, Prof. Brand on his deathbed apologizes to Murph that he lied about the plan, the equation of gravity can never be solved and has no use, people on Earth were never meant to be saved, which totally shatters her beliefs. In space, with all the failures, damage, limited fuel and zero per cent hope to get back on Earth Cooper decides to take last chance to go for Edmund’s planet using Gargantua’s gravity as a slingshot. Only one thing he hides from Dr Brand is that Cooper himself along with robot TARS will detach from the main ship and get sucked in the Blackhole to shed the weight of the ship and get her out of the Gargantua’s pull towards Edmund’s planet. When Cooper detaches himself from the ship with TARS gets sucked into the black hole and instead of dying due to massive force of gravity, gets trapped in a Tesseract built by ‘them’ which is a five-dimensional space and where time runs in both directions i.e. in past and in future. 'They' have built a three-dimensional space in it, which opens behind Murph’s Bookshelf in her room. Cooper understands that 'they' have saved him, they are the future of mankind who can control time like any other dimensions, he is the bridge to communicate with the three-dimensional world, they chose Murph not him to save the world and if he could transfer all the data recorded by TARS in blackhole to Murph, will definitely help to save humans on Earth.
On the Earth, Murph returns to her room in search of answers and now she understands that the Ghost in her room was none other than her dad from the future. Cooper sees Murph through the Tesseract and reckons that she will understand the message through the 'Watch' he gave it to her before leaving because of LOVE as ‘he gave it to her’. Cooper transmits all the data to the movement of Second’s hand of the watch in the form of Morse code and Murph picks up the signal obviously because of LOVE. Murph records all the data and solves the problem of gravity, after the completion the Tesseract collapses and Cooper gets thrown out in space, gets rescued by the humans on the Cooper’s Station (Named after Murphy Cooper) which is currently orbiting Saturn. After all this adventure the moment comes when Cooper meets his daughter Murph who is far older than Cooper and the emotions in the scene are just at the top. Murph on her deathbed tells her dad that no parent should have to watch their own child die and to go for the search mission of Dr.Brand who went to Edmund’s planet. The final shot of the film shows Cooper leaves in search of Dr Brand who had already landed on Edmund’s planet and she breaths in the open air which proves that Edmund's planet is the one we are looking for and The End…….

    1. "They" are actually the advanced human civilization from future who live in a 5 dimensional space and left trails for the crew to follow !!
