Ford V Ferrari
There is a point at 7,000 RPM where
everything fades. The machine becomes weightless. Just disappears. And all
that’s left is a body moving through space and time. 7,000 RPM. That’s where
you meet it. It asks you a question. The only question that matters. “Who are
you?”
Ford Vs. Ferrari is a story of a machine from ‘Zero’ to ‘7000 RPM’. It is a story that tells you how the Ford company reemerged as champion, who can not only make a maximum number of cars but also can win the races. It is a story of two automobile enthusiasts Ken Miles and Caroll Shelby and how they made ford company the Champion. It is the story that made the world realize that Ferrari can be defeated. The soundtrack, racing sequences and brilliance of Cristian Bale are just top-notch. It is one of the best movies of 2019 and bagged a couple of academy awards.
At the start, we get the brief intro of
Carrol Shelby (Matt Demon) a former Le Mans champion, currently the owner of Shelby
Americans known for performance cars and dealing with panic attacks. Ken Miles
(Christian Bale) a British racer, has won lots of championships, currently
running car garage, who knows the feeling of machines but a bit volatile and then
there is Ford Motor which is running out of Bussiness. One of the
executives Lee Iacocca come up with the idea of getting into racing like Ferrari as it will generate winning emotions
in customers and suggest to own Ferrari motors as it went bankrupt because of
continuous research. But this plan went horribly wrong as not only Ferrari is
sold to Fiat but Enzo Ferrari harshly disgraces Ford company
and Mr Henry Ford II himself. Angry Mr Ford decides to build their
own race car at any cost, with best engineers and drivers in the business which
are of course Shelby and Miles.
The goal is to make the car which will win the Le Mance, the race which will test not only the machine
but also driver’s skills at every turn, in every lap for 24 hours and the journey to beat
Ferrari begins. It is really interesting to see the developments of that machine,
how they use their experiences, everyday hacks rather than using heavy
technologies to build and measure the performance of the car. However executive of
Ford decides not to take Ken Miles for the Le Mans as he is not a ‘Ford Man’
which will be bad for marketing and as a result with all this effort Ford loses
the first race. In meeting with Mr Ford II, Shelby blames the company’s vertical
organizational structure which is very bounding and takes too much time for
decision making due to committee culture. But yet Shelby thinks its win for
Ford as they showed the world they can make a race car.
Miles, Shelby, and entire crew
work very hard to make the car perfect and most importantly Shelby manages to
take Miles as a driver this time to Le Mans putting his own company at risk. On
the race day, Ford gets some rough starts but after that, Ken Miles goes on
breaking the records with every passing lap. "If you’re gonna push a piece of
machinery to the limit and expect it to hold together, you have to have some
sense of where that limit is". Ken Miles perfectly uses gist of his lines as he
pushes Ferrari's driver to cross the limits of the car, resulting in blowing off the
car and taking all the hope of Ferrari out of the race. Now the executives of
Ford want all the Fords to line up and finish the end line together just to
create a great photograph, which means Miles has to slow down to match up with the other two. Confused Miles
get in the car and drives the lap with perfect gear shifting and corners which he terms as Perfect Lap. But showing
great spirit he slows down and finishes the race along with other team members;
sadly after all this brilliance because of just technicality Ken Miles comes runner
up. But without getting demotivated starts to work for the next race.
Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby and Ford go on winning 4 consecutive seasons, unfortunately, Ken Miles takes his last breath on the track while testing the car and I think this is the highest kind of honour anyone can get 'Dying while doing the thing you love the most'.It is a film that teaches you to chase your dreams, believe in your skills, winning or losing doesn't matter but giving your 100 per cent is important.
